Vitals SAMe 200mg
Approximately five hundred amino acids occur naturally. Twenty of these amino acids serve as building blocks for proteins in the human body; these are referred to as "fundamental amino acids." These fundamental amino acids can be further subdivided into the categories "essential," "semi-essential," and "non-essential." Methionine is considered an essential amino acid, meaning the body cannot produce it from other amino acids and that one must rely entirely on food to meet one's daily needs. The methionine that the body does not incorporate into proteins can be converted into S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) by reacting with ATP. This process occurs primarily in the liver. SAMe is a methyl donor used in various methylation reactions in the body.
Methionine in the form of SAMe has the advantage that it does not need to be converted first, but is immediately available to the body.
