Vitals L-lysine 500 mg
Approximately five hundred amino acids occur naturally. Twenty of these amino acids serve as building blocks for proteins in the human body; these are referred to as "fundamental amino acids." These fundamental amino acids can be further subdivided into the categories "essential," "semi-essential," and "non-essential." L-lysine is considered an essential amino acid, meaning the body cannot produce it from other amino acids and must rely entirely on diet to meet its daily needs. For vegetarians and vegans, lysine intake may be insufficient, as animal proteins, in particular, are rich in lysine.
L-lysine is the precursor of the amino acid carnitine. This product uses the natural L-form of lysine, not the synthetic D-form. Only the L-form is physiologically active. Lysine for use in dietary supplements is produced by fermentation by microorganisms. Plants and microorganisms can, however, produce lysine themselves from the amino acid aspartic acid.
