Vitals L-Arginine 500mg
Approximately five hundred amino acids occur naturally. Twenty of these amino acids serve as building blocks for proteins in the human body; these are referred to as "fundamental amino acids." These fundamental amino acids can be further subdivided into the categories "essential," "semi-essential," and "non-essential." L-arginine belongs to the so-called semi-essential amino acids, meaning that the body can partly produce it itself and is partly dependent on diet to meet its daily needs. Adults can synthesize arginine from the amino acids ornithine, glutamine, glutamate, and proline; nevertheless, the amount of arginine in food contributes significantly to the total arginine supply. For children and adolescents, arginine is an essential amino acid because its biosynthesis is still too low.
L-arginine is incorporated into proteins and can be converted into other amino acids (such as ornithine and proline). Furthermore, arginine is the only precursor of nitric oxide (NO), a biochemical signaling molecule. It is also a precursor of creatine and polyamines.
This product uses the natural L-form and not the synthetic D-form.
