A semi-essential amino acid
Normally, our bodies form the semi-essential amino acid cysteine from l-methionine, but many things can go wrong during this conversion process. Moreover, factors such as surgery, diet, rapid growth, or strenuous exercise can cause a semi-essential amino acid to become essential. The rate at which our bodies absorb the amino acid then falls short of meeting our needs.
