A semi-essential amino acid
Normally, our bodies form the semi-essential amino acid cysteine from l-methionine, but many things can go wrong during this conversion process. Moreover, factors such as surgery, diet, rapid growth, or strenuous exercise can cause a semi-essential amino acid to become essential. The rate at which our bodies absorb the amino acid then falls short of meeting our needs. But if glutathione is so important to me, why don't I just take it? Research shows that the body doesn't absorb (reduced) glutathione, or barely absorbs it.
