Creatine is a substance that occurs naturally in our bodies. We can obtain some of it from food, but our bodies can also synthesize it from the amino acids arginine, glycine, and methionine. The amounts found in food are relatively low. For comparison, one scoop of Creatine Monohydrate contains 3 grams of creatine. Mechanism of action of creatine
During high-intensity exercise, our body uses ATP as an energy source. However, the ATP stores in our cells are limited and must be replenished quickly. Creatine phosphate plays a crucial role in the rapid regeneration of ATP.
Our bodies naturally produce creatine phosphate, although research shows that we can increase our muscle creatine phosphate stores by an average of 20% with creatine supplementation. This increased store leads to greater muscle strength during physical exertion.
