From Then Pines bio
The Swiss pine (Pinus cembra) grows in the Alps and Carpathians just below the tree line, sometimes reaching heights of almost 3,000 meters. In other parts of Europe, the Swiss pine is planted as an ornamental or for forestry. It can also be found in the vast coniferous forests of Central Asia. The tree grows to a height of approximately 25 meters. The scientific name refers to the native Italian name for the tree. It is called Zirbelkiefer in Austria and Bavaria. In Switzerland, the Swiss pine is called Zirbe or Arve.
