Guarana is the seed of the Paullinia Cupana, a climbing plant that grows in the Amazon. Guarana powder is the ground seed of the fruit produced by the plant. It contains guaranine, a substance similar in chemical structure to caffeine and naturally occurring in the seed.
The difference with caffeine is that the active ingredient in guarana is absorbed more slowly by the body. Unlike coffee, for example, this results in a more even effect over a longer period.
