In the Netherlands, iodine is not naturally present in the diet. Therefore, it is added to table salt (Jozo), bread, bread substitutes, and some meats. Vegetarians and people who eat little bread, no iodized salt, and little or no fish are at risk of iodine deficiency. Kelp is a well-known natural source of iodine.
