Omega-3 fatty acids play a unique role in supporting heart and blood vessels. The fatty acids in the omega-3 family are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Most health benefits are known for EPA and DHA. EPA is also important for maintaining healthy cells, for flexible joints, and for supporting the immune system. DHA plays an important role in the development and functioning of the brain and nervous system. EPA and DHA are found almost exclusively in fatty fish and are therefore also known as fish fatty acids. Usage
