Fipronil is an insecticide and acaricide belonging to the phenylpyrazole family. Fipronil and its metabolite, fipronil sulfone, act on ligand-gated chloride channels, specifically the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-gated channels, as well as the glutamate-gated desensitizing (D) and non-desensitizing (N) channels (Glu, uniquely gated chloride channels found only in invertebrates). These channels bind to the chloride channel and block the pre- and postsynaptic transfer of chloride ions across the cell membrane. This results in uncontrolled central nervous system activity, killing insects and acarids.
Pyriproxyfen is an insect growth inhibitor that works through juvenile hormone-analog activity. Pyriproxyfen sterilizes adult fleas and prevents the development of immature stages. The molecule prevents the proliferation of adult fleas through contact by inhibiting the development of their eggs (ovicidal activity), larvae, and pupae (larvicidal activity), which then disappear.
If adult fleas ingest and/or come into contact with pyriproxyfen, the molecule also sterilizes flea eggs during their development and before they are laid. The molecule prevents contamination of the environment of treated animals with the immature flea stages.
What is this medicine used for?
To be used for flea infestations alone or in conjunction with tick infestation.
Against fleas:
Treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis). One treatment prevents further infestations for 7 weeks.
Prevention of the multiplication of fleas by preventing the development of adult fleas from flea eggs for 12 weeks after administration.
Against sign:
Treatment of tick infestations (Ixodes ricinus).
A single treatment provides persistent acaricidal effectiveness against Ixodes ricinus for 2 weeks and against Dermacentor reticulatus and Rhipicephalus sanguineus for 4 weeks.
If some species of ticks (Dermacentor reticulatus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus) are already present when the veterinary medicinal product is administered, not all ticks may be killed within the first 48 hours.
Do not use in
Do not use in rabbits, as side effects and even death may occur.
Do not use if you are known to be hypersensitive to the active substances or to any of the excipients.
Active ingredients
Active ingredients 2.68 ml pipette:
Fipronil 268.0 mg
Pyriproxyfen 80.4 mg
Excipients
Butylhydroxyanisole 0.536 mg
Butylhydroxytoluene 0,268 mg
Excipients
Butylhydroxyanisole E320
Butylhydroxytoluene E321
Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether
Dosage
Administer one 2.68 ml pipette per dog weighing 20 to 40 kg, corresponding to
with the minimum recommended dose of 6.7 mg fipronil /kg body weight and 2 mg
pyriproxyfen/kg body weight.
Volume - Weight dog - Fipronil (mg) - Pyriproxyfen (mg)
0.67 ml - 2-10 kg - 67 - 20.1
1.34 ml - 10-20 kg - 134 - 40.2
2.68 ml - 20-40 kg - 268 - 80.4
4.02 ml - 40-60 kg - 402 - 120.6
For dogs > 60 kg the appropriate combination of pipettes should be used.
Directions for use
Remove the pipette from the blister pack. Hold the pipette upright. Tap the narrow end of the pipette to ensure all the contents are in the pipette reservoir.
Break off the tip of the spot-on pipette along the break line. Part the dog's coat in front of the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the pipette directly against the skin and gently squeeze the pipette several times to empty it. If necessary, the contents of the pipette can be applied to one or two additional spots to prevent the product from falling off the skin or being applied too superficially into the coat, especially in large dogs.
The treatment consists of one pipette, with the option to repeat the application monthly.
For optimal control of flea and tick infestations and flea multiplication, the treatment schedule can be adapted to the epidemiological situation.
