Flaminal Hydrogel
Flaminal® Hydro is an Enzyme Alginogel® based on alginates and an antimicrobial
enzyme system.
Flaminal® Hydro promotes wound healing in several ways:
1. Flaminal® Hydro keeps the wound clean
2. Flaminal® Hydro keeps the wound moist
3. Flaminal® Hydro provides antimicrobial protection
4. Flaminal® Hydro is safe for the skin and wound tissue
5. Flaminal® Hydro reduces wound odor caused by bacteria
6. Flaminal® Hydro helps to reduce excessive protease activity (protease = enzyme
that breaks down proteins)
7. Flaminal® Hydro protects against bacteria in a biofilm and reduces the biofilm mass
8. Flaminal® Hydro protects the wound edge
These are the main properties to heal a wound quickly.
What is this medicine used for?
Flaminal® Hydro is indicated for low to moderately exuding wounds, such as:
- leg ulcers
- diabetic foot ulcer
- 2nd degree burns (deep, superficial)
- wounds during radiotherapy
- oncological wounds
- complex abrasions
- dermatosurgery
Directions for use
Applying or reapplying Flaminal® Hydro to a wound is easy and
Painless. Proceed as follows:
1. First clean and rinse the wound (e.g. with Flamirins®)
2. Gently pat dry
3. Cover the entire wound bed with Flaminal® Hydro
4. Cover Flaminal® Hydro with a bandage. The choice of bandage is determined by
the nature of the wound:
- Dry wound: Transparent film (polyurethane) or grease dressing with a non-adhesive
bandage
- Low exuding: Non-woven gauze compress with a non-adhesive bandage or with a
hypoallergenic adhesive plaster
- Moderately exuding: Absorbent, non-adherent compress with a non-adherent bandage or
a hypoallergenic adhesive plaster
Good to know
- Check the bandage daily. If there are leaks or insufficient gel, Flaminal® Hydro
replace and apply a new bandage.
- If dry, white alginate flakes appear on the skin during treatment with Flaminal® Hydro,
If the wound edge appears, leave it alone. They protect against softening of the wound edge.
Softening slows wound healing.
- If dry, white alginate flakes appear in the wound, cover Flaminal® Hydro as usual
a dry wound.
- If the gel runs too quickly, the wound is too moist for Flaminal® Hydro and
it is better to use Flaminal® Forte.
- The dressing with Flaminal® Hydro can remain in place as long as the gel structure is intact (1 to
4 days, depending on the level of exudate).
- In the initial phase of treatment you may have the impression that the wound is expanding. This is a
normal consequence of the healing process in which dead tissue is removed.
- Since alginates are natural products, the color may change slightly.
Colour change does not affect the quality of Flaminal® Hydro.
Ingredients
Alginate (total alginate content 3.5% (w/w)); macrogol; hydroxypropyl cellulose; enzyme system (glucose oxidase, lactoperoxidase, glucose, guaiacol); potassium sorbate; buffer; purified water Ph. Eur.
Warnings
For certain wounds, additional treatment may be necessary. Consult a doctor or
wound specialist.
Flaminal® Hydro can be used on infected wounds under medical supervision.
Alginates have a foul odor that does not affect wound healing. However, if the odor
suddenly becomes more pronounced, consult a doctor or wound specialist.
Flaminal® Hydro should not be used in patients with a known allergy to any of the
components (see “Composition”).
Flaminal® Hydro must not be applied to the eyelids or in the eyes. If this is the case,
If this happens, rinse your eyes thoroughly with running water. Consult a doctor.
