In addition to glucose, the Diatesse XPER can also measure ketones.
When we exercise, our bodies use sugars. Sometimes, these can also be fats.
When fats are consumed, ketones are produced. These ketones, if present in large quantities, can acidify our blood. An elevated ketone level is called "ketosis." A significantly elevated ketone level, including the acidification, is called "ketoacidosis." This can occur while following a ketogenic diet.
Because ketoacidosis combined with diabetes can lead to a diabetic coma, measuring ketones is strongly recommended under special circumstances, especially if illness and/or fever and vomiting are also present. You should also consult your healthcare provider if this is the case.
