What is spirulina?
Spirulina is a blue-green spiral-shaped algae. Algae are microscopic plants that have been at the base of the food chain for millions of years. Spirulina is an ancient saltwater algae known to the Aztecs, Toltecs, and several indigenous peoples in Africa, such as the Kanembu in Chad. Many terms have been used to describe spirulina: "green gold" and even "beauty food." Spirulina has a dark blue-green color thanks to a brilliant blue polypeptide called phycocyanin.
