Betadine Disinfection ointment gauze
Betadine ointment gauze is a wound dressing impregnated with a fatty, germicidal, and soothing ointment containing povidone-iodine, which has a rapid and long-lasting effect against bacteria and fungi. The brown color, caused by the presence of iodine, makes the disinfected area visible. The disinfecting effect of Betadine ointment gauze lasts as long as the brown color remains visible. Povidone-iodine is a disinfectant effective against a wide range of microorganisms. Bacterial resistance to povidone-iodine has not been observed.

What is this medicine used for?
Betadine ointment gauze is used to protect the wound, even if it is infected.
This gauze disinfects the infected skin.
It promotes the healing of superficial burns, cuts or abrasions, even if the wound is infected and helps prevent infections.
NB: In severe and heavily infected wounds, medical evaluation and the use of systemic antibiotics are indicated.
Directions for use
Clean the wound, cleanse and dry the surrounding skin. Apply gauze to the wound. Cover the gauze with a (breathable) bandage and secure it to the skin with tape. Change the bandage daily. Do not use Betadine ointment gauze for more than 14 days without consulting your doctor.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
Iodine is known to cross the placenta and reach the fetus, and large doses can lead to thyroid dysfunction in the fetus. Pregnant women should avoid using Betadine ointment. Because iodine is excreted preferentially in breast milk (up to 50%), even a small amount can result in a high dose of free iodine in breast milk and can suppress the baby's thyroid function. Breastfeeding should be discontinued for at least 24 hours after using Betadine ointment.
Effects on ability to drive and use machines:
In general, no influence on driving ability is to be expected.
Read the instructions for use before use.
Contraindications
Do not use in case of:
- Newborns and premature babies
- Long-term use on large areas of skin during pregnancy
- An overactive thyroid gland
- Iodine hypersensitivity
Ingredients
Wound gauze with Betadine ointment (100 mg/g povidone-iodine). Also contains: Macrogol 400, 4000 and 6000 and purified water.
Warnings
- For external use only.
- Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
- Caution is advised in persons with iodine hypersensitivity and thyroid disorders.
- Betadine ointment gauze cannot be used to prevent tetanus.
- Do not use for more than 14 days without consulting a doctor.
