BCM Ketostix test strips
Ketostix® reagent strips. Test for ketones (acetylacetic acid) in urine.
-
What is this medicine used for?
KETOSTIX® reagent strips are designed for self-testing by diabetics and healthcare professionals to detect the presence and amount of acetylacetic acid (ketones) in urine. KETOSTIX strips are designed for testing for ketones in urine.
Directions for use
KETOSTIX reagent strips are for in vitro diagnostic use only. Do not swallow.
TEST INSTRUCTIONS:
Required materials:
• KETOSTIX reagent strips
• Stopwatch or watch (with second hand)
• Clean, dry drip tray
Step 1. Remove the strip from the bottle or foil pouch. (If the strip is in a bottle, close the bottle tightly immediately.)
Do not touch the test area of the strip. Check the expiration date on both unopened and opened packages. If either date has passed, discard the strip and repeat the test with a reagent strip from a new vial.
Using strips past their expiration date may reduce results.
Step 2. Dip the test end of the strip into a fresh urine sample and then immediately remove the strip. (Whisk the reagent strip along the edge of the collection container to remove any excess urine.) You can also briefly hold the test end of the strip in the urine stream.
Step 3. Start timing immediately.
Step 4. AFTER EXACTLY 15 SECONDS, compare the test zone to the ketone color scale. Ignore any color changes that occur after more than 15 seconds.
Step 5. Record the result.
If the test shows an average to high ketone level, contact your doctor or diabetes nurse immediately.
Always read the instructions before use.
Ingredients
Reagents: 7.1% w/w sodium nitroprusside, 92.9% w/w buffer.
Storage advice
Never use KETOSTIX reagent strips in a vial or foil pouch if the expiry date on the vial label or foil pouch has passed.
Please carefully follow the advice below to ensure your KETOSTIX reagent strips remain fresh.
Before testing, do not touch the test area with your finger or other objects.
Store the product at room temperature (15°-30°C).
Do not store the bottle in direct sunlight.
IMPORTANT: PROTECTION FROM MOISTURE, LIGHT AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEAT IS ESSENTIAL TO PREVENT REDUCTION OF THE REACTIVITY OF THE REAGENT.
Other information
